In the ever changing world that we live in, it is crucial that young people are given the support to move successfully through life. The Government recently released new guidance for Schools and Academies to ensure that all students have access to information, employers and Post 16 programs on offer to them when they leave school. We will target our careers support to each students Career Interests to ensure that they can gain the necessary qualifications and experience with employers that will support them on their journey.

We now have to achieve 8 Gatsby Benchmarks that ensure that we have an Outstanding Careers provision and that students have the best guidance on offer. The Gatsby benchmarks are:

  • 1. A stable careers programme
  • 2. Learning from career and labour market information
  • 3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  • 4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  • 5. Encounters with employers and employees
  • 6. Experiences of workplaces
  • 7. Encounters with further and higher education
  • 8. Personal guidance

We have strong working relationships with local Colleges and other Post 16 providers. With the support of Higher Horizons plus we now have access to more work with local and national universities. Students will be given the opportunity to take part in activities both onsite and offsite at the Universities.

Our students also have access to all local Colleges and Post 16 providers. All of which are invited to parents evening, careers fairs, assemblies, subject tasters throughout the year.

Our Local Authority Careers advisors are Karen Harrison and Anna Dunning. They are available onsite throughout the week. All Year groups can have access to the Advisors in the Careers Zone on the First Floor.
